Nigdi-Chakan Metro: DPR Stuck in Limbo as Civic Approval Remains Pending

Revised 47km route plan held up at PCMC, Project cost rise by ₹2,500 Crore

A decision on second metro corridor connecting Nigdi to Chakan in Pimpri Chinchwad industrial belt remain pending. Maha Metro submitted revised detail project report for this route to the civic body in February but it has not yet been place before the PCMC General body and has been sitting unaddressed for roughly three and half month.

Revise DPR Submitted in February but Still Awaiting Approval

Revised detail project report for 47.215 km Nigdi Chakan corridor via Wakad was handed to the municipal commissioner on February 26, 2026 with an estimated cost of ₹12,937.23 crore. Despite three and half month passing since submission report has neither been tabled before general body nor received final approval. Meanwhile civic officials group leader and elected representatives have reportedly been asking Maha Metro for separate presentation on new route at their own office leaving administration uncertain about whom to present to first and arevised detail project report has effectively been sideline in process.

Commissioner Accused of Delaying the DPR Presentation

Maha Metro submitted revised arevised detail project report to the Commissioner in February 2026 expecting it to be place before general body promptly so all corporators could be briefed simultaneously discussed and approved by consens without general body approval, arevised detail project report cannot be forward to the state government and only after central government clearance can actual construction begin a process expect to take five years. However Commissioner inaction suggest indifference toward new metro line.

Big Claim About  Metro But Little Urgency for Approval

City representatives and civic official have repeatedly publicized plan for this new metro corridor with claim circulating widely on social media about how it would boost city development and link Hinjawadi IT Park with Chakan industrial belt. Yet in practice no one appear to be pushing to get revised arevised detail project report approved or moving forward exposing a gap between rhetoric and action. This inaction risk further delaying project and could drive up costs even more.
